Coryton Church hosted a wonderful fundraising evening on Friday 31 August - the weather was good and guests were able to enjoy a glass of wine outside the church before going inside for James Clarkson's exquist and absorbing performance of John Donne's life - told entirely through his own words.

NO MAN IS AN ISLAND” “ASK NOT FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS”

Lover, poet, and Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, Donne was a fascinating and complex man whose career and thought echo many issues of our time. This 50-minute play explores his witty and brilliant poems, his intimate letters, thundering sermons and profound and moving meditations. It includes his early life in the 1590s as a clever young love-poet in London, his disastrous marriage, his struggles with poverty and obscurity, his ordination, preaching, turbulent relationship with God and his preparation for death
